VAS DEFERENS
- Definition: Vas deferens is a muscular tube that stores and transports sperm.
- Origin: It originates from the epididymis.
- Course: It passes through the inguinal canal and ends in the prostatic urethra.
- Structure:
- It is a muscular tube with thick walls.
- It is lined with a single layer of columnar epithelium.
- It has an inner longitudinal layer and an outer circular layer of smooth muscle.
- It has a serous coat and a tunica vaginalis.
- Function: It stores and transports sperm from the epididymis to the urethra. Vas Deferens is a muscular tube that carries sperm from the epididymis to the prostate gland.
Extent of Ductus Deferens
- Length: Approximately 20-25 cm
- Diameter: 2-3 cm
- Thickness: 2-4 mm

Blood and Nerve Supply
- Blood Supply: Artery of vas deferens (a branch of internal iliac artery)
- Nerve Supply: Preganglionic parasympathetic fibers from pelvic splanchnic nerves (S2-S4), postganglionic sympathetic fibers from hypogastric plexus
Applied Anatomy of Vas Deferens
- Vasectomy: Cutting or blocking of vas deferens for contraception
- Vasovasostomy: Surgical repair of vas deferens for infertility treatment
