WALL OF PELVIS

ContentMCQ

WALL OF PELVIS INCLUDING PELVIC DIAPHRAGM

Structures that Form the Walls:

  1. Ilium: Largest and most medial bone of the pelvis
  2. Ischium: Forms the posterior wall of the pelvis
  3. Pubis: Forms the anterior wall of the pelvis
  4. Sacrum: Forms the posterior wall of the pelvis
  5. Coccyx: Forms the lowest part of the pelvis

Structures that Form the Pelvic Diaphragm:

  1. Levator Ani: Muscles that form the pelvic diaphragm
  2. Coccygeus: Muscles that form the pelvic diaphragm
  3. Sacrotuberous Ligament: Connects the sacrum to the ischial tuberosity
  4. Sacrospinous Ligament: Connects the sacrum to the ischial spine

Main Blood Vessels:

  1. Internal Iliac Artery: Branches into the anterior and posterior divisions
  2. Anterior Division: Supplies the anterior wall of the pelvis
  3. Posterior Division: Supplies the posterior wall of the pelvis
  4. Common Iliac Artery: Forms from the internal iliac artery
  5. External Iliac Artery: Forms from the common iliac artery
  6. Internal Pudendal Artery: Supplies the perineal region
  7. External Pudendal Artery: Supplies the external genitalia

Main Nerves:

  1. Pudendal Nerve: Supplies the perineal region
  2. Ilioinguinal Nerve: Supplies the inguinal region
  3. Genitofemoral Nerve: Supplies the external genitalia and femoral region
  4. Obturator Nerve: Supplies the medial compartment of the thigh

Applied Aspect:

  1. Childbirth: The pelvic diaphragm and walls are important structures during childbirth
  2. Surgery: The pelvic blood vessels and nerves are important structures to consider during pelvic surgery
  3. Trauma: The pelvic walls and diaphragm are vulnerable to injury during trauma
  4. Degenerative Diseases: The pelvic joints and surrounding structures can be affected by degenerative diseases such as osteoarthritis

Blood Supply and Nerve Supply of Pelvis and Perineum:

  1. Blood Supply โ†’ Internal Iliac Artery โ†’ Anterior and Posterior Divisions
  2. Nerve Supply โ†’ Pudendal Nerve โ†’ Perineal Region
  3. Blood Supply โ†’ Internal Pudendal Artery โ†’ Perineal Region
  4. Nerve Supply โ†’ Ilioinguinal Nerve โ†’ Inguinal Region
  5. Blood Supply โ†’ Genitofemoral Nerve โ†’ External Genitalia and Femoral Region

Flowchart of Blood Supply and Nerve Supply:

+---------------+ | Internal Iliac | | Artery | +---------------+ | | v +---------------+ | Anterior and | | Posterior Divisions | +---------------+ | | v +---------------+ | Pudendal Nerve | | (Perineal Region) | +---------------+ | | v +---------------+ | Internal Pudendal | | Artery (Perineal Region) | +---------------+
