Proximal: head of fibula with lateral condyle of tibia
Distal: fibular notch of tibia with distal fibula

Fibrous joint (syndesmosis)
Capsule with ligaments connecting tibia and fibula

Anterior and posterior tibiofibular ligaments

Common peroneal nerve (proximal)
Deep peroneal nerve (distal)

Anterior tibial artery
Fibular artery
Movements
Very slight gliding movements
Provides stability to ankle
Clinical Anatomy
High ankle sprain → injury to distal tibiofibular ligaments
Syndesmotic injury → affects ankle stability
