Co-relation between Repertory, Materia Medica & Organon
• Homeopathic materia medica, Organon & repertory are the 3 main pillars of homeopathic system of medicine.
• These 3 disciplines are like a 3-legged stool where the stool is the homeopathic system & the 3 legs represent materia medica, Organon & repertory.
• All 3 are support of each other.
• Even in the absence of one leg, the stool will not have a proper balance. Hence, to give a proper balance to the system of homeopathy, each of these disciplines should be related & given adequate importance & compared.
• These disciplines can also be compared to the parts of the human body.
• HMM may be like the heart & soul, Organon like the brain & repertory like all other organs necessary to perform functioning.
• They are interdependent, complementary to each other & inseparable parts of the whole.
• This , this rapidly advancing discipline has become very useful to the homeopathic Physician .
Thus , to be a Successful & classical homeopath one must learn & master these 3 DISCIPLINES i.e. Materia Medica Organon Repertory ...
They are complementary to each other ...
Dr. Kent's view • The physician must study the homeopathic principles until he learns what it is in sickness that guides to the curative remedy. • He must study the MM until he learns what is needed to meet these demands. • He must then study the repertory until he learns how to use it so that he can find what he wants, what he needs.
Dr. Bidwell writes • The repertory was never made or intended to take the place of the materia medica. • Repertory should be used as an index to lighten the task of memory in storing the vast symptomatology of our remedies. • The use of the repertory is one of the higher branches of our art & before it can be mastered, the laws governing the homeopathic Rx & cure of diseases as given to us in the Organon & chronic diseases must be learnt.
Views of Stalwarts on Repertory
• All the stalwarts of homeopathy : They have criticized all who depend too much on the Repertory for selection of the similimum . Even if a case is fully repertorized , the physician needs to consult & refer to the materia medica to finalize the Prescription .
• Father of Repertory , Boenninghausen has : Discouraged too much dependence on a repertory for the selection of right remedy .
He writes : For finding remedy A man should not content himself with the repertories without having knowledge & careful reading up of the fountain sources i.e. Materia Medica
• A man who is thus satisfied with the vague hints of a repertory in selection of Remedies without knowledge of MM gets through with one pt after the other , is rather a quack & will have to give a very reserved 2-way minute , until the patient loses his patience .
• At the same time one can not depend too much on materia medica & neglect the repertory .
• The knowledge of materia medica does not give freedom to keep aside the repertory which is so useful .
• Dr J.H. Clarke Says : "It is impossible to Practice homeopathy without the aid of repertories" .
• Materia medica is like an ocean full of pearls which cannot be reached out without a suitable device .
• The Repertory works as a suitable device to pick up the right pearl at right time .
• The organon & medicine guides us how to make Other best use of the hard earned pearls .
• In the absence of any one of these discipline , one cannot do proper work of homeopathy in the right sense .
• As time advances , each discipline is attempting to be complete in itself .
• Materia Medica as well as Organon have advanced much to be used at the bedside for Rx & care of patients .
• Repertory , the most advancing discipline has advanced to such an extent that it incorporates materia medica , therapeutics , practice of medicine & even rubrics on mind sm .
