  • Elimination:
    • Urine: Scanty, dark
    • Stool: Watery, offensive, greenish
    • Perspiration: Cold and clammy
  • Sleep: Not possible due to frequent motions and pain
  • Thermal State: Chilly (shivering despite feverish feeling)

B. Reactions - Physical Factors

  • Weather: Aggravation after cold food or exposure
  • Position: Better lying with knees drawn up; worse standing/walking

5. MENTAL STATE (Psychodynamic & Life-Space)

  • Nature: Restless, anxious during acute phase
  • Anxiety: Fear of dehydration or collapse
  • Fear: Fear something serious (like cholera)

  • Differentiation of Remedies: Compared Arsenicum with Veratrum. Veratrum has more profuse watery evacuations + cold sweat + collapse with desire for cold drinks in large quantities; Arsenicum matches chilly, restless, anxious/fearful, thirst small sips often, burning pains, prostration, > warmth. Podophyllum has painless gushing diarrhoea.
  • Selection of Remedy (Materia Medica): Arsenicum Album matches acute gastro-enteritis with great prostration, burning pains, chilly patient, thirst for small frequent sips, anxiety/restlessness/fear of death, cold clammy sweat (Ref: Allen’s Keynotes, Boericke).
