CLASSIFICATION OF SYMPTOMS

Definition of symptom: A symptom is any deviation from the normal physiological state that is perceived by the patient.

Definition of symptomatology: It is the study of symptoms and their classification.

Types of symptoms:

  • General symptoms
  • Particular symptoms
  • Modalities
  • Concomitants
  • Aggravations
  • Reliefs
  • Temporal symptoms
  • Spatial symptoms

Classification of symptoms according to Hahnemann:

  • General symptoms are divided into two types: Mind symptoms and General bodily symptoms.
  • Mind symptoms are further divided into three types: Mind symptoms of the higher mind, Mind symptoms of the soul, and Mind symptoms of the imagination.
  • General bodily symptoms are further divided into three types: General symptoms of the body, General symptoms of the senses, and General symptoms of the functions of the body.

Classification of symptoms according to Boenninghausen:

  • Symptoms are classified into two categories: General symptoms and Particular symptoms.
  • General symptoms include Modalities, Concomitants, Aggravations, Reliefs, Temporal symptoms, and Spatial symptoms.
  • Particular symptoms include General bodily symptoms, Mind symptoms, and Symptoms of the senses.

Classification of symptoms according to Kent:

  • Symptoms are classified into two categories: General symptoms and Particular symptoms.
  • General symptoms include symptoms related to the Mind, the Body, and the Senses.
  • Particular symptoms include symptoms related to the Functions of the body and the Organs.
